AW10 MEN: LINER

Reversible Convertible. Bomber, Survivor, Insulator and Smuggler

Liner Masthead New

The AW10 LINER is constructed from a combination of structured Japanese black dobby nylon and rich navy memory-nylon (it's reversible). It's insulated with Primaloft and finished with rugged Talon zippers, military tape-through buttons and seat belt grade ballistic webbing.

The objective was to pack a shocking degree of multi-functionality into a design that paid genuine respect to iconic utility designs of the past.  The inspirations were vintage pieces but the ingenuity of their approaches to problem solving allowed us to pick up where their great ideas left off and create something new.  As always the idea is to push the tradition forward. In this case to create a stand-alone fully reversible bomber jacket (that's 2-in-1) but a design that further converts into a traditional button-in liner insulator (either way around, making for a total of arguably 4-in-1).

Specifically the LINER buttons into:

THE DUTY WP LAMINATE SHELL

THE LONGSHORE PEA-COAT

THE SEA COMMISSION TRENCH COAT

Liner Interior New

The content-specific pocket configuration taken from a 1940's C-1 Airforce Survival Vest is rendered in Primaloft filled crushable nylon allowing the design to fully reverse itself.  With the multi pocketing flipped to the inside, the exterior transforms to minimalistic bomber style.

Inspiration from the Denham Garment Library

A: The original C-1 Air Vest supplied the concept for the densely nested cargo pockets.

B: A Hunting Blouson from the 1950's inspired the LINER's reversible construction.

C: Modern Rapid Response Boots inspired the idea of removable (reversible) Zipper-Unit.

D: The removable lining system on an M65 Jacket inspired the LINER's convertibility.

Liner Zipper

THE KEY TO THE CONCEPT: 10 BUTTONS, A TALON AND A SEATBELT FACTORY

A completely removable zipper-unit built from seat belt grade ballistic nylon, military tape-through buttons and a rugged Talon zipper is the key the LINER's multifunctional design.  The zipper can be flipped when the jacket is inverted, allowing full reversibility.  The zipper can be completely removed allowing the jacket to function as a traditional button-in lining integrating with other jackets in the DENHAM collection.

The USAF C-1 Survival Vest, dug up in a vintage specialty showroom in Tokyo, inspired us to look closer than ever at the details and into spirit of practical invention undertaken by those nameless utility designers that came long before we did.  We can only hope that our own LINER concept expresses some of the same spirit.
