When Jason brought the first bunch of us together to begin giving depth and dimension to his brand-spanking new DENHAM brand (mind you this was all the way back in Spring 2009 collection-wise and, yes, fall 2010 is just now arriving in shops) we were determined to connect what we were doing with the quality and heritage of the past. We were also determined to attempt the maybe humble maybe arrogant undertaking of following in the footsteps of the denim-culture innovators who had inspired us when we were starting out. Following their hard-earned example we determined we'd try to "push things forward" at the same time as living up to historical standards.
So one can imagine when how chuffed we all were on Jason's behalf when he was asked to symbolically join the ranks of those inspirational innovators in a feature for WeAr Magzine. A recent ceremonial gathering in Berlin included Adriano Goldschmied (co-architect of the Genius Group Diesel, Replay and Katherine Hamnet as well as creator of AG Jeans), Francois Girbaud (the last name says it all), and Pierre Morisset (visionary creator of the game-changing Elwood jean and driving design force behind the ascent of G-Star).
In a season when he had also forged ahead with a breakthrough First Edition program for our AW10 collection, some of his best work by his own account, it represents a perfectly timed chance to gently take hold of our end of a baton that's been passing through time since Jacob Davis first slammed metal rivets into a pair of work pants in Nevada 1873.
So thanks to Karl-Heinz Muller and the WeAr Magazine team on Jason's behalf and on behalf of the rest of us. Thanks also to Adriano, Francois and Pierre for their abundant encouragement and positive karma. We carved out space here on our blogish site under the heading The Cutter's Council in hopes we could wire together a network of like-minded folks to help keep pushing things forward.
