DENHAM GARMENT LIBRARY 'LIMITED 1ST EDITION' : FOR WORK & RECREATION
Denham's Spring 2010 female collection includes highly limited edition version of our new SPY jacket model for women. For each garment in this series we worked with specialists to obtain vintage Japanese "boro" textiles in the form of old blankets, kimonos, curtains and leggings. We paintsakingly dismantled these artisan "rag-fabrics" and re-cut them to create less than 24 one-of-a-kind SPY BORO jackets.

This pairing of our design approach with heritage quality Japanese boro textiles was inspiring to the team on two levels:
BORO 'RAG' (in Japanese) is the word used to describe the textile folk garments made, repaired and worn by itenerant Japense workers. This culture is similar to the American sharecropper's story which played a key role in the history of western denim.
INDIGO Boro textiles feature a wide range of dying and wax-resistance printing all of which employ deep blue indigo. After wear and fading by weather and washing, these textiles behave similarly to denim, producing beautiful patinas and textures over time.
THE TRUTH IS IN THE DETAILS
WORSHIP TRADITION The boro tradition is Japanese and we still rely on Japanese artisans in the creation of modern Denham blue jean styles. We work with Japanese denim weavers and finsishing specialists who have picked up on a once western tradtion and moved it forward as they've kept it safe, saving vintage looms, learning originial techniques and generally keeping the torch of jean culture lit for the rest of us.
DESTROY CONVENTION An entirely new CABLE CONNECTION system was created to replace standard sliced-and-repaired button-holes. We cut triangle wedges into a clean finished edge and ran a continous dynamic cord through the entire placket. The cord crosses the wedge to create the cleanest button holes we've ever seen.
SPY IN OIL COTTON
The SPY BORO is a limited edition (only 25 pieces made. Only available in our STORE or selected Denham stockists) of the SPY jacket also from the Spring 2010 collection. The SPY is crafted in a very lightweight oil-cotton with the surface attitude of traditional waxed canvas (like you'd expect on motorcycle touring gear) but in an easy spring weight.
