SS10 WOMEN: WAVELL

Ever-so-softly padded reversible jacket inspired by a fencing doublet

Wavell Masthead (trial)

THE WAVELL is a lightweight fitted spring jacket which hides tough details like biker sleeves with Talon zippers and a linear allover quilting pattern in a deceptively cute silhouette.  The inspiration for the design was a mid-century fencing doublet from the Denham Garment Library with great lines a slightly rock-and-roll edge.

The first order of business was to reduce the weight and volume just enough that it still holds its shape while transforming into something light enough for a spring night or an indoor jacket if the air conditioning is turned-up.  This was achieved through the use of lightweight vintage military gabardine on one side, and shirtweight railway ticking on the reverse.

FLEXIBLE LIKE A FENCER'S FOIL The Wavell's slightly puff-shouldered & cropped attitude doubles-up as the style is fully reversible, flipping easily from a black exterior to a white striped version when turned inside-out.  Regardless of which side is out, it can also be zipped all the way up, or the zip can give way to a double-button over flap toward the top of the closure, making three ways to wear it.

FITTED OVER FLOWING: SHAPE OVER DRAPE The Wavell and other Denham women's designs are styled to allow for combinations of tailored and form-fitting top layers over more romantic flowing underlayers and shirtings creating a fitted-over-flowing play on contrasting volume.

WORSHIP TRADTION/ SEXY UTILITY We get very excited when a really authentic piece shows up in our research that combines true utility-tailoring functionality with a certain undeniable sex appeal that works for women.  It took us longer than expected to get hold of a good specimen of a fencing doublet from this era but it was worth the effort when we were able to transfer some of those qualities into or SS10 Wavell jacket.
