Home (all) Welcome to DENHAM the Jeanmaker´s website. Each card reveals a story which represents one facet of Denham´s vision. Categorised by the collection, garment library, studio & stores, to press reports & the birth of the Cutter´s Council. Designed in time with no beginning nor end, through resourceful innovation and fearless experimentation. It´s a decorated blog. A tailor-made homepage. We hope to fascinate but are equally prepared to frustrate.

WAISTCOAT AS WORKWEAR Workwear tradition is loaded with dignity and style. Blue jeans epitomize that idea but we haven't completely lost touch with other elements of the work wardrobe thanks to images like those of August Sander after whom we named our SANDER waistcoat.
Not built for preening about as 1/3 of a 3-piece suit. On the contrary. We've tried to pay a little homage to workers' waistcoats of the past while adding a contemporary styling and functionality of our own.

OIL COTTON The look and a bit of the feel reminds of us of heritage waxed-canvas on old hunting and motor-touring styles. -But we wanted something really light for spring. We've done a light softner wash on our end, and from there it should take on even more character with regular wear. Sorta like a pair of jeans.

QUICK DRAW Waistcoats typically feature a back cinch (like original waist-overall type blue jeans) allowing the wearer to adjust the fit. We've kept the tradition but replaced the mini belt and buckle with an elastic shock-cord which runs through a secured barrel clasp. It's the same one-handed pull system you see on ski gloves but it works equally well in this application.
High Chest Interior Pocket
THE TRUTH IS IN THE DETAILS Besides the one-handed tightening system, the SANDER also features details like deep but "blind" front pockets, a full sized inside breast pocket big enoug for travel documents and an additional interior pocket in the high-chest position, great for a mobile phone or Ipod (use the short headphone cord 'cuz it's a short trip from this position up to you your ears...).
WORSHIP TRADITION Along with photos of turn-of-the-century labourers by August Sander and others, we also looked to specimens like this French deadstock work vest in corduroy and canvas. We kept the high neckline and rugged construction in our update to this basic idea.

FORMAL FRIDAY No, not realy. But were you to lose your head and hanker to run a necktie, the SANDER's high neckline would keep it out of harm's way. (Note: since we're playing dress-up here we've shown it with our own strap-down collar ISSUE shirt in black)
