DENHAM began in 2008 with just two people. Today, we employ over 50 associates at our Amsterdam headquarters, with satellite offices in Dusseldorf, Shanghai, Tokyo and Sydney. Our team is still young enough to try new approaches, but also experienced enough to work with confidence and discipline, ensuring a constant focus on quality.

Curious about our staff? Below are a few interviews with our team members.

Monique Gort | Inbound Logistics Coordinator

What do you do at DENHAM?

I’m responsible for all inbound and logistics – I have to make sure our goods arrive at the right time at the right place.

Why DENHAM?

With owners Jason and Debbie always around, DENHAM feels like a family business; a bit more personal, a bit more passionate, but also a bit more grounded compared to other companies where I’ve worked in this industry. These three things attracted me from the start.

Your best DENHAM moment?

When I won a prize for my contribution to the "5 years of DENHAM" celebration. Since I don't play a role in the creative output of the company on a daily basis, the “recognition" for my "Golden 5” was a nice surprise.

You love...

Quality time with my family and friends. And food. And travelling! Preferably a good combination of all these things.

You hate...

Injustice and inequality.

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

I’m really happy with my new Corduroy Cardigan. I love chunky, slightly oversized knits. Another DENHAM classic is the black biker in-between jacket in coated canvas.

Marcia Godet | Retail Director Europe

What do you do at DENHAM?

My title is Retail Director Europe. I’m responsible for all the DENHAM stores in Europe.

Why DENHAM?

For most of my career I’ve worked in the jeans segment – I love the passion and craftsmanship behind this product. It’s fun to work for a smaller, growing brand where the product is still made with passion and integrity.

Your best DENHAM moment?

The last Retail Season Kick-off. For a full day and evening we had the store staff together at one location. When standing in front of the group and looking at them it made me feel proud to have such a great bunch of people together. It was a fun and inspiring day.

You love...

The people who work here, and the pride that you feel being a part of a beautiful brand with great stores. And chocolate!

You hate...

Things that I hate in life – but luckily hardly have to encounter at work – are dishonesty, injustice and people that are not helpful towards others.

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

Difficult, I have a lot! It would be like having to pick your favourite child. But if I have to make a choice, my favourite for the moment is the Monroe ASNBF - a black washed, tapered fit jean.

Thomas Stegelmann | Director of Digital Communication and eCommerce

What do you do at DENHAM?

The title says Director of Digital Communication and eCommerce, but I’d say I want to excite our customers by showing the craftsmanship, passion and creativity of our designers in our products. You would be amazed to see just how much attention they’re paying to each detail in our products.

Why DENHAM?

After working for Red Bull and Adidas, I wanted to work for a smaller company again – to be more entrepreneurial, more agile and just make cool stuff. Luckily, I found all those ingredients here.

Your best DENHAM moment?

I would say building a great culture of running fast in my team.

You love...

Coffee. I’m the most loyal customer of Joel and his team at the Jason Denham Collection store (which you can find at Prinsengracht 531, Amsterdam).

You hate...

The moment I realise I’ve forgotten my wallet and need to beg for a coffee.

What's your guilty pleasure?

Ben & Jerry’s – ask my wife.

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

I love my Bowhill leather jacket. I hadn’t owned a leather jacket for decades but this one makes me feel like a badass.

Milou Dooijes | PR Manager

What do you do at DENHAM?

I work across marketing and public relations as the PR Manager.

Why DENHAM?

I had worked in one of the stores when I was a younger, so I knew and loved the brand already. After gaining more experience in PR and marketing, working agency side for a few years, I returned to DENHAM.

Your best DENHAM moment?

That’s tough. We have had a lot of great moments. A few that stand out include: the launch of the movies – Denham Psycho, The Jeanmaker, and The Truth Is In The Details; the brand collaboration with Art Comes First, and traveling to Hong Kong with them for the launch; the collaborations we’ve undertaken with upcoming brands like Stieglitz and Daily Paper; Vogue’s “Fashion’s Night Out” events; the big press dinner we held at the beautiful Pulitzer Hotel this year, to kick off our 10-year anniversary; and last but not least, the collection launch at Candiani in Italy.

You love...

Kiteboarding, yoga, running and, most of all, the sun.

You hate...

When people don’t say what they think.

What's your guilty pleasure?

Tony’s Chocolonely Zeezout Melk Karamel – a popular brand of chocolate bar here in Amsterdam that’s made with caramel and sea salt.

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

All of my jeans, but especially the Monroe, Heidi and Alex fits.

Nimesh Gadhia | Menswear Designer

What do you do at DENHAM?

I’m the menswear designer for tops and outerwear; that’s everything from t-shirts to wool coats (and occasionally, the non-denim pants too).

Why DENHAM?

After completing a denim-related freelance project in London, I moved to Amsterdam. Of course, I’d known about DENHAM for a while, but after falling in love with denim and Amsterdam, I felt like the right move for me was to try and join this fast-growing, super cool brand. I met Jason for a coffee at DENHAM’s Prinsengracht store and showed him my portfolio. He offered me a job, and I’ve never looked back.

Your best DENHAM moment?

My first line launch and seeing that collection come to life. We presented it to the international sales teams at the Candiani factory in Italy, one of the most well-respected and sustainable fabric mills in the world. It was dramatic and very exciting.

You love...

In no particular order: clothes, steak, romance, tattoos, running, swimming, pudding, gin, wine, karaoke, Jim Jeffries comedy specials, superheroes, Ibiza, the unknown, dogs, goats, repetition, coincidence, symmetry and getting it right the first time.

You hate...

Fashion, reality TV, televised sport, strip bars, magicians, low-fat products, cats, poor grammar, shaving, too much makeup, predictability and anchovies.

What's your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate fondant desserts and ’80s rom-coms.

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

The Sleepwalk Parka. At least once a year, the design team likes to make a “re-cut program”. We find vintage items and turn them into limited edition garments. Last winter, we cut up vintage Dutch army tents and made them into winter parkas. We used the wooden toggles as fastenings, the webbing for reinforcement and found military deadstock parachute nylon for the liner. This winter we have created the Sleepwalk Parka. We found a pile of vintage Swiss sleeping bags, dating back to the 1960s, and converted them into padded overcoats by chopping off the bottom to fashion sleeves and pockets. We kept the original hood, snaps and finishings. The result is a huge puffer jacket with lots of drama and presence. It’s pretty wild but I love it!

Roosmarie Meester | HR Manager

What do you do at DENHAM?

I’m responsible for DENHAM’s Human Resources department. It’s a very broad role that encompasses everything to do with the people who work here – I love every bit of it! I always tell people that my job is the best one in the company, because I get to work with my own team, plus everyone else in the company, on a daily basis. Not everyone can say that. Every day is a new adventure, full of surprises, laughter and sometimes tears (that’s life, though). I’m always learning something new, and I like to think that I teach people a thing or two in return. It sounds very cheesy, but it’s a role that gives me a lot of pleasure and fulfillment.

Why DENHAM?

Coming from a larger organization, I immediately fell in love with the family vibe at DENHAM. The people, and even the beautiful canal house we call headquarters, ooze creativity and ambition. In my first interview, I remember hearing that DENHAM is all about the 3 Ps: People, Product and Presentation, but that it all starts with the people. Of course, my HR heart skipped a beat! When I saw the big poster hanging in reception that says “work hard and be nice to people”, I knew this was the place for me. Because that’s all what it’s about in the end, right?

Your best DENHAM moment?

I feel very lucky that I get to share so many beautiful moments with the people here, especially because I’m very close to “my” people. You see? They feel like “my” people. When someone is down and I get to make it a little better for them, those are the best moments (and it’s always nice to get thank-you cards, texts and hugs). And, of course, the parties! The roof is on fire every time.

You love...

People, innovation and building, chocolate, Amsterdam, the beach and cats (a fact which the dogs who hang out in my office don’t appreciate).

You hate...

Complaining without thinking of a solution, resistance to change, slowness and dishonesty. Thankfully, there’s very little of that here.

What's your guilty pleasure?

Anything Kardashian-related. Sorry, I can’t help it!

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

My style has evolved during my DENHAM years; I’ve gone from owning zero pairs of jeans to having a closet full. Who knew I’d become a denim girl? I love a clean wash Monroe – our girlfriend fit. Another of my favourites is a sleeveless blazer that I’ve had forever. It still goes with everything.

Ruud van Esch | Denim Production Coordinator

What do you do at DENHAM?

Coordinate the denim production.

Why DENHAM?

What attracted me to the company was its having the right balance – being both heritage based and future forward. The DENHAM motto “worship tradition, destroy convention” says it best.  What makes me stay are the people and our company chef Sonja’s Soto Ayam.

Your best DENHAM moment?

There have been many! The Christmas parties, running for charity and the many work trips I’ve taken to collaborate with the local teams, improve our quality and better understand our products.

You love...

Family, friends, outdoor activities and open spaces.

You hate...

Being inside for too long with the windows closed (especially in the winter). People need to breath.

What's your guilty pleasure?

Teva sandals, Whitney Houston (specifically the track “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”) and the right kind of peanut butter in my morning yoghurt and granola.

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

My Chore Jacket VCSS – it’s fading in really nicely – and the new Osaka fit jeans.

Roswitha Leuwol | Visual Merchandiser Coordinator

What do you do at DENHAM?

I’m the visual merchandising coordinator.

Why DENHAM?

I have always had a weakness for Dutch brands, especially DENHAM. I’m a jeans and tee kinda girl, all the way. When I saw there was a job offer, I applied without hesitation. I’ve loved learning more about denim during my time here.

Your best DENHAM moment?

Every store opening is a best DENHAM opening, because each one is more beautiful than the last. The ones I really love right now are Rotterdam and Utrecht; each has their own character that perfectly represents both DENHAM and their city.

You love...

When the whole family is hanging out together, and there’s plenty of food to go around.

You hate...

Hate is a strong word, but I don’t like pasta or bread.

What's your guilty pleasure?

Instagram videos where people mix different coloured paint together with a spatula. I can lay in bed and watch them for hours before I go to sleep, and sometimes first thing when I wake up too.

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

It’s a pair of jeans that I’ve owned for ages (so long, in fact, that I’ve forgotten the style name). They’re the perfect fit and wash and they have a nice selvedge detail.

Stefanie Meyer | Finance Manager

What do you do at DENHAM?

I’m the Finance Manager.

Why DENHAM?

I think it was seeing the old sewing machine in the Jason Denham Store at Prinsengracht 531. It immediately fascinated me because I love vintage stuff and I also sew a bit. I also love that there's still a start-up atmosphere here. It gives you the possibility to bring in your own ideas.

Your best DENHAM moment?

Organizing the Christmas party, together with members from all the individual teams, was really fun and a great collective effort.

You love...

Good food, travelling light and Sundays spent at the beach.

You hate...

Unfairness, dishonesty and disposable tableware.

What's your guilty pleasure?

Eating a whole bar of Tony’s Chocolonely Discodip chocolate. It’s milk chocolate filled with popcorn.

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

My three-year-old black Point jeans which, unfortunately, I cannot wear at the moment thanks to my baby bump!

David Kamerling | Store Manager - Rotterdam

What do you do at DENHAM?

Besides being an ambassador of DENHAM, I’m the Store Manager in Rotterdam, which means I’m responsible for both the standalone store and the de Bijenkorf shop-in-shop.

Why DENHAM?

Before I joined the DENHAM family, I already represented the brand with passion. Now, my work brings together all the most important parts of my life – my hobby, my interests, my pride, my pleasure, my job and my city.

Your best DENHAM moment?

After 10 years of experience across several retail companies, during the 10-year anniversary of DENHAM, I became responsible for the brand’s 10th store in The Netherlands – in my beloved city Rotterdam (which has the area code 010). It’s like it was meant to be.

You love...

Authenticity in life.

You hate...

Coloring between the lines.

What's your guilty pleasure?

When I prepare my sandwiches for work I cut them frozen, so they are perfectly straight and all the same size.

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

There’s no way I can pick just one. I think it’d be between the Skin VJS (Virgin Japanese Selvedge) and the Razor MIJVK (Made In Japan Virgin Kobe). Both are really awesome Japanese denims!

Roy Piek | Assistant Store Manager - Amsterdam

What do you do at DENHAM?

I’m the Assistant Store Manager at the men’s store in Amsterdam.

Why DENHAM?

I’ve been a fan of the brand for a long time, so to work in a space where you get to interact with the beautiful product and meet customers who are just as passionate about the brand as you? That’s a cool thing.

Your best DENHAM moment?

The fact that I’ve managed to create a fun and vibrant environment for my team.

You love...

Seeing my family smile!

You hate...

An unstructured work environment.

What's your guilty pleasure?

Temptation Island (for the uninitiated, it’s a Dutch reality TV series that sends couples to a tropical island filled with single people of the opposite sex, to test the strength of their relationships).

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

My Bernal Type 3 leather biker jacket, which was inspired by the classic US Air Force MA-1 bomber jacket.

Raphael Latupeirissa | Store Manager - Amsterdam

What do you do at DENHAM?

I’m the Store Manager of the men’s store and the men’s denim bar in Amsterdam.

Why DENHAM?

For me, it’s all about the everyday craziness with my colleagues. We work hard and we play hard.

Your best DENHAM moment?

Every store opening is a best DENHAM opening, because each one is more beautiful than the last. The ones I really love right now are Rotterdam and Utrecht; each has their own character that perfectly represents both DENHAM and their city.

You love...

My job, my city, my jeans.

You hate...

Hate.

What's your guilty pleasure?

I never feel guilty about pleasures!

What is your favourite DENHAM garment?

My Drill VJS jeans. They’re super comfortable and always look good; they’ve become my go-to pair for work and weekends.
