FUTURE SUSTAINABILITY GOALS

GOALS FOR 2021-2025

At DENHAM, we believe that sustainable denim and great design go hand in hand. Sustainability has been part of our brand values since the day DENHAM was founded and remains at the core of everything we do. As we continue our sustainability journey, we share our vision for the future and how we aim to adopt more circular practices. Our sustainability goals for 2021 - 2025 help give us long-term focus, drive as well as the motivation to bring around positive and impactful change.

INCREASING OUR USE OF CERTIFIED COTTON

One of our main goals for the next five years is to increase our use of certified cotton, in particular our use of organic cotton. By 2022 we want to only use certified cotton in our denim collections. This means either cotton from the Better Cotton Incentive (BCI), the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Organic Content Standard (OCS) or recycled cotton. We used both organic cotton that is certified following GOTS and the OCS 100, depending on the origin of the cotton and the vendor.

IMPROVING THE SUSTAINABILITY PERFORMANCE OF OUR VENDORS

One of our main goals for 2021 is to improve the sustainability performance of some of our vendors. We aim to do so by supporting them in getting the necessary certifications and making impactful changes to how they work, such as cutting down on their overall carbon emissions and switching to greener, cleaner energy. Together we can support each other making a meaningful difference. At the same time, we are also open to learn from some of our vendors on how we can work more sustainably as well.

IMPROVING THE SUSTAINABILITY OF OUR FABRIC MILLS

Another one of our main sustainability goals is to help some of our fabric mills improve their social and ecological certifications wherever possible. We strive to work together with them to help them get the needed certifications and to implement more sustainable and ethical business practices by 2022.

CREATING SUSTAINABLE PARTNERSHIPS

While we are striving to make our own sustainable changes, we know that together we are even stronger. Which is why for 2021, we aim to partner with a number of leading non-profit organisations, including the Fair Wear Foundation, the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and the Better Cotton Initiative to help bring around even more positive change.

BIODEGRADABLE POLY BAGS

As part of our wider aim to reduce plastic waste and become zero waste, we are currently trialling different types of poly bags in The Netherlands, such as cornstarch and biodegradable plastic poly bags. We aim to switch to fully biodegradable poly bags across our business by 2025.
